作風・特徴
湿板の長い露光を前提に、動かない山と建築を選んで構図を決めます。前景に岩や人物を置いて距離の目安とし、奥行きを読ませました。
生涯
イングランドに生まれ、銀行に勤めながら写真を始めました。1863年にインドへ渡り、三度にわたるヒマラヤ撮影行を行います。カルカッタで写真館を共同経営し、その版元は同地の記録写真を広く供給しました。
